This unique project replaces the dangerous US 27 bridge through downtown with a new bridge that enhances the aesthetics and functionality of the City of Richmond’s historic downtown. The previous structure was a 17-span bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad and 5 Richmond streets in the heart of downtown Richmond's Historic Depot District surrounded by historic buildings. The new bridge had to leave the historic downtown in a better place than where it started by enhancing safety, improving connectivity, and respecting the historic downtown aesthetic.
