Michigan DOT (MDOT) is pursuing the use of highway right-of-way (ROW) for solar arrays and EV infrastructure to reduce emissions, increase operational efficiency and resilience, and support the state's clean energy goals. As one of the AASHTO Energy Moonshots, MDOT is conducting a statewide planning study and mapping analysis developed in partnership with The Ray to identify ideal sites for roadside solar, aiming to maximize asset use, reduce costs, and generate new revenue. This session will share insights from the study to date and its role in advancing a cleaner, more productive transportation future.
