Wisconsin DOT’s Bureau of State Highway Programs is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to inventory and monitor various assets across roughly 15,000 miles of state highways. The system was built by internal staff using mostly free open-source software, works with existing highway photolog and aerial imagery, and produces sufficiently accurate results with minimal staff input. This presentation will cover how the system works, its capabilities and limitations, required resources, and planned upgrades.
