Lighting and visibility are important components of a safety strategy for pedestrians, with approximately 73% of pedestrian fatal crashes in Michigan occurring at dark conditions from 2011-2020. Looking to address these types of crashes, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) funded a research project on crosswalk lighting to determine best practices, cost, and effectiveness while complying with Michigan State law.
