As New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner, Marie Therese Dominguez leads a team of more than 8,500 professionals at the forefront of New York’s efforts to modernize its infrastructure and provide a safe and efficient transportation system statewide. Executing a record $34.3 billion five-year capital plan with investments that encompass highways, bridges, passenger and freight rail, aviation facilities and public transportation systems, NYSDOT is leading New York State’s historic commitment to connecting communities through transformational infrastructure investments that reunite neighborhoods long divided by relics of the past century by creating new, accessible transportation networks that bring people together and create new opportunities for growth. From New York City to Buffalo, progress can be seen in projects like the removal of the Interstate 81 Viaduct in Syracuse, the Inner Loop project in Rochester, the replacement of the Livingston Avenue rail bridge between Albany and Rensselaer, and the Hunts Point Access Improvement Project in the Bronx. Since 2019, Dominguez has served as a Commissioner of the Gateway Development Commission, responsible for building new rail tunnels under the Hudson River, and was recently confirmed to serve on the Board of Commissioners for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Dominguez has worked in transportation, water, and energy infrastructure for over 25 years having served as the U.S. Senate confirmed, Administrator of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration at the U.S. Department of Transportation, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works (Corps of Engineers), Deputy Chief of Staff and Counsel to the Administrator of the FAA, and Special Assistant to the NTSB Chairman.
