Thomas Nelson, Jr. is a member of the Senior Executive Service with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). He is currently the Director of Field Services North with oversight of 13 FHWA Division Offices including: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. He a member of the FHWA Senior Leadership Team.
Prior to this position, Thomas has served as the Division Administrator for the Virginia Division Office. In this role, he provided leadership and direction to the division office in the administration and delivery of the $1.4 billion Federal-aid highway program in collaboration with Federal, State, and local officials. Previously, Thomas served as the Division Administrator for the Kentucky Division Office where he led the delivery of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s $700 million Federal-aid highway program.
Prior to joining FHWA, Thomas gained valuable leadership experience with CH2M Hill (now Jacobs) as well as the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer.
