Description: The Virginia Department of Transportation’s $3.9B Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel Expansion Project is the single largest-ever construction project in the agency’s history. This long-awaited infrastructure project has required innovative strategies, legislation, and technical solutions throughout the project’s lifecycle. Through tireless efforts to establish a local funding vehicle, VDOT, with its regional partner, the Hampton Roads Transportation Accountability Commission, is poised to transform the local region through investments of more than $5B, which will double capacity at this critical harbor crossing as well as laid the groundwork for a 45 mile price managed express lanes network.
