Description: This presentation will describe lessons learned and battle-tested strategies for managing the East End Tunnel in Louisville, Kentucky. This structure is one of the most complex transportation assets in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's (KYTC) inventory. It carries Interstate 265 and features a multitude of functional systems designed to facilitate the safe passage of traffic between Kentucky and Indiana. Managing this complex tunnel requires expert personnel from multiple disciplines who exercise keen attention to detail. This presentation will focus on the biennial NTIS tunnel inspection as well as the day-to-day strategies and technologies that allow for constant monitoring of tunnel operations, routine testing of functional systems, and other asset management activities.
