Description: The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) plays a critical role in the state’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from hurricanes. In 2024, Florida, and specifically the Tampa Bay area, faced significant impacts from Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton. Each of these storms brought unique challenges, underscoring the importance of FDOT’s well-developed response framework. The agency's extensive experience in hurricane management has allowed it to refine procedures, leverage key resources, and ensure that Florida’s transportation infrastructure remains as resilient as possible. However, hurricanes remain unpredictable, requiring flexibility, quick decision-making, and coordination at all levels of government.
