Description: Many states operate passenger and freight rail services on the same tracks and corridors, including North Carolina. Shared tracks and corridors offer unique challenges and opportunities for growth and infrastructure development. The mission of the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Rail Division is to ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and goods on North Carolina’s railroads through freight, passenger, and safety programs, thereby supporting job creation and economic growth. This presentation explores highlights of several programs and projects on shared infrastructure and the impact of collaboration in delivering successful rail projects that benefit all users.
