This presentation will summarize the work performed by TxDOT and TTI to integrate connected vehicle speed data into the AASHTOWare Safety platform, enabling users to easily incorporate it into their crash analyses. The current connected vehicle data set being used by TxDOT/TTI represents about 5%-7% of the traffic stream, and newer connected car data sets already have sample rates higher than this. This work is backed by an extensive evaluation of the use of high-resolution speed data for speed studies, as well as tested in two TxDOT district-wide predictive crash analyses.
