The WSDOT hydraulics team utilizes various technologies, including 360-degree photos and videos, drone imagery, 3D scans of site features using LiDAR sensors built into the latest generation of iPhones, time-lapse imagery, survey LiDAR, and other pertinent data files. The workflow consolidates all the data into a virtual site tour, which is viewable on a desktop computer or through a virtual reality headset and is available to anyone. This allows team members and co-managers to “return” to the site, identify specific features and habitats, take rough measurements, and collaborate on restoration design using this virtual tool.
