The USDOT and FHWA are actively embracing and exploring advanced technologies like artificial intelligence to meet regulatory requirements, enhance safety, and optimize transportation systems. This can include operational activities including winter maintenance, inspections, safety, and mobility. By collecting and analyzing data, technology can reduce costs, improve pavement design, and enhance overall management. By providing real-time reporting of asset conditions, DOTs can leverage technology to better deploy their available workforce to correct problems rather than search for them and improve the safety of employees and the traveling public. AI and machine learning offer efficient and cost-effective solutions today to ensure states are in regulatory compliance.
